Step 1

What do you need help with?

Pick one. We'll narrow it down.

Getting started

What is AnsGrape?

AnsGrape is a study-support service for all students. Select a problem or text in your browser and the AI gives you the answer and an explanation. It works as a Chrome / Edge extension and as a web app.

How do I get an answer?

After installing the extension, select text on a page and press “Solve”, or use “Select area” to draw a box around the problem. You can also open the side panel and ask the AI directly.

Which browsers are supported?

Chrome and Edge (as an extension). The web app works in common browsers.

Using Ask AI

Can I attach images or files to a question?

Yes. Use the paperclip button next to the input box to attach images (PNG, JPEG, WebP), PDFs, Word / PowerPoint / Excel files and text files. You can also drag and drop or paste an image.

What is web search (the globe icon)?

When it is on, the AI looks things up on the web before answering and lists the pages it found as sources under the answer. When it is off, it answers only from what it already knows. If web search isn't available, we tell you and answer from what it knows.

Can I continue an earlier conversation?

Yes. Open a conversation from the history (on the left in the web app, the clock icon in the extension) and keep asking. You can also open a problem you solved with the extension and continue from there with the input box.

What are the buttons under an answer?

“Copy” copies the answer. “Try again” asks the same question again and replaces the answer with a new one. 👍/👎 tell us whether the answer was helpful, which helps us improve the service.

Can I delete my history?

Yes. Use the delete button on an item to remove it, or “Delete all history” to remove everything. Deleted items can't be restored.

Extension tips & settings

What's the difference between “Select area” and “Current screen”?

“Select area” lets you drag a box around part of the screen and uses only that. “Current screen” captures everything you can see now. When only one problem matters, “Select area” is usually more precise.

Can it solve graph problems?

Use the “Graph solver”. Attach a picture of the graph (or capture it with “Select area” / “Current screen”) and it reads the graph to answer. Fine scales or thin lines can be misread, so compare the values it used with the original graph.

What is Real-time mode?

While the side panel is open, it answers automatically every time you select text on a page. Each answer uses your question allowance just like a normal question. It is off by default, and you can switch it on or off in the settings.

I don't want it to show up on certain sites

In the settings you can list sites separately for the highlight tool and for the bottom-right icon. You can also add a site from the menu on the page with “Don't show on this site”. To pause it just for today, choose “Off for today (until midnight)”.

Can I change the language or text size?

In the settings, “Language” sets the extension's display and answer language: 日本語, English, Bahasa Indonesia, Tiếng Việt, Português, Español, 한국어 or 简体中文. “Answer text size” can be small, standard or large.

What is the card at the top of Google search results?

If you turn on “Show AI search on Google” in the settings, an AnsGrape card appears at the top of search results. Only when you press the card is your search phrase sent to the AI to get an answer. If you don't press it, nothing is sent. It is off by default.

Are there keyboard shortcuts?

Yes. While text is selected, Alt + a number runs an action without the mouse, and selecting while holding Alt solves it right away. See the full list under “Keyboard shortcuts” in the settings.

Getting the most out of it

I want to understand the reasoning, not just the answer

Choose “Hint” or “Explain” and you get clues and the line of reasoning instead of just the answer. In Ask AI you can also ask, for example, “Give me only a hint” or “Walk me through it one step at a time”.

I want to check whether my answer is right

Use “Check answer”. Enter your own answer and it tells you whether it is right and, if not, where it went wrong.

How do I read text in another language?

Select the text and press “Translate” to get it in your chosen language. If you want the meaning of a technical term or how a sentence is built, just ask in Ask AI.

Any tips for getting good answers?

Include the whole problem. Adding conditions, units, what you have tried so far and where you are stuck leads to more on-target answers. For images, drawing the box tightly around the problem makes it easier to read.

Which subjects does it cover?

Mainly math, physics and programming, and it also works for languages and general study questions. It is stronger in some fields than others, so check important points against your textbook or your teacher.

How should I use it for reports and assignments?

It works well for planning an outline, checking terms, suggesting phrasing and proofreading — things that help you understand and draft. Some universities and courses don't allow submitting AI-written text as it is, so please check the rules first.

Can I use it during exams or quizzes?

Whether you may use it depends on the rules of each course or exam. Please don't use it where it isn't allowed; following those rules is your responsibility.

Is it OK to use AnsGrape at my school?

AnsGrape is a service that helps you with your own studying; it isn't provided by any school or university. Whether you may use it is decided by the rules of your school or course. Please check, with your teacher or your school's guidance, whether AI use is allowed for assignments, exams and quizzes before you use it, and don't use it where it isn't allowed. School computers and networks may also restrict installing extensions. Following the rules is your responsibility. If you want to know about use by a school or an organization, please contact us through the contact form.

Notes & recording

What can I do with Notes?

You can keep lecture memos, material (text, PDF, Word/PowerPoint/Excel files, web page URLs) and a recording of the class in one note. A summary and key terms are created once and saved, and when you ask about the note, the answer comes with where in the note it is based on. If you are called on in class, the “Called on!” button gives a short answer you can read out right away, plus a fuller explanation to read later.

What are note “AI checks”? Is there a limit?

Each time AI summarizes a note or answers a question about it, one “AI check” is used. These are counted separately from normal questions and from Drops. The limit depends on your plan and is shown on the note screen as “this month X / Y” (it resets on the 1st of every month). Saving notes, memos and transcripts has no limit. If the AI could not answer, nothing is counted. “Called on!” counts as one normal question.

Is my recorded audio stored?

You choose with the “Save recorded audio” setting on the recording screen (it is on by default). When it is off, only the transcript text is stored. Stored audio is encrypted with a separate key per file and deleted automatically after the period set for your plan. It is also deleted from storage when you delete the note, delete only the audio, or delete your account. The audio itself is never sent to AI.

Where does transcription happen?

Transcription uses your browser’s speech recognition (the Web Speech API). Depending on the browser, the audio may be sent to the browser’s provider (Google for Chrome, Apple for Safari and so on) to be turned into text. In browsers that can recognize speech on the device, it is processed on the device. The recording screen shows which one applies. Browsers without speech recognition cannot transcribe (please use Chrome, Edge or Safari).

What should I be careful about when recording?

Before recording a class or a conversation, always make sure you have the permission of the people around you (teachers, friends and so on) and that your school’s rules allow it. Recording without permission, or showing a recording to others without permission, is prohibited by the terms. A notice about this is shown when you start recording. Keep the screen open while recording (turning it off or closing it stops the recording).

How reliable are the answers in Notes?

Answers are based only on what is written in the note and show where they come from (page, time and quote). Anything the note does not say is answered as “not written” rather than guessed. Answers whose evidence could not be verified are shown with low confidence. The result of a check by a second AI (agrees, partly weak, disagrees) is shown too. They can still contain mistakes, so always check the evidence and the original material.

About the answers

Are the answers always correct?

They can contain mistakes. For normal questions a second AI from a different company double-checks the answer and we re-solve when they disagree. Please verify important things with your textbook or teacher. The 👍/👎 under each answer helps us improve.

When something's wrong

The answer is taking a long time

It can take longer when it is busy or in a mode that thinks carefully, such as Genius. Depending on your plan, a wait like “about N seconds” is shown. To stop, press the ■ button and send it again.

It says I've used up my allowance

The usage display at the top shows how much you've used. It is green up to 70%, orange from 71% to 99%, and turns red once you've used it all. You can see when it resets from the usage display.

An answer looks wrong

Please press 👎 under the answer. Using “Try again” may give a different result. For important problems, check against your textbook or teacher. To help us improve, you can tell us through the contact form what you asked and how it differed.

The extension button doesn't appear

First reload the page. Check that AnsGrape is turned on in your browser's extensions page. Also make sure the site isn't on your “don't show” list and that “Off for today” isn't active. Some pages, such as the browser's own internal pages, don't allow extensions.

The text in an image isn't read correctly

Small, blurry or tilted text can be misread. Zoom in, draw the box around just the problem, and try again.

Account & login

I can't log in

You log in with a code (or a link) sent to your email address. If it doesn't arrive, check your spam folder and the address you typed. If you still can't get in, please contact us from the contact form.

How do I delete my account?

You can do it at any time from “Account” in the app. Deleting removes all data tied to the account, such as history, attachments and settings.

What is the User ID?

It is your personal number starting with “AG-”. We use it to quickly identify your account when you contact us. You can see and copy it on the account page and in the extension's settings and user-icon menu.

Can I use it on several devices or browsers?

Yes. Log in with the same email address on any device or browser. Your history is available in the web app as long as you use the same account.

Plans & pricing

Can I use it for free?

Yes, there is a Free plan. See the pricing page for what each plan includes, such as the number of questions.

What is Genius?

A mode where several top AIs solve the problem separately and the answer is shown only when they agree. If they disagree, we say we are not confident instead of stating a wrong answer. Several AIs check the result, but it cannot be guaranteed to be free of mistakes.

Where can I see plan details and prices?

On the public pricing page and on the plans page inside “Account” in the app. Prices are shown per month so you can compare, including what applies to yearly payment.

Subscription & payment

Can I pay monthly?

Yes. On the plans page, choose “Monthly” to pay month by month. “Yearly” means paying for a year at once, and the monthly equivalent is lower with yearly. Prices are shown on the plans page, tax included.

I want to pause my subscription

There is no pause feature. If you won't be using it for a while, please cancel (this stops the next renewal). After you cancel, you can keep using your plan until the end of the period you've paid for. When you want to use it again, subscribe again from the plans page. See “End or cancel my subscription” for how to cancel.

End or cancel my subscription

Log in to the web app (app.ansgrape.com), go to “Account”, press “Cancel” in your subscription section, and confirm with “Confirm cancellation”. The next renewal will not happen, and you can keep using your current plan until the end of the contract period. Before that end date you can undo it with “Undo cancellation” in the same section.

Cancel my free trial

If you cancel before the trial ends, you won't be charged. Cancel the same way as in “End or cancel my subscription” (“Cancel” on the Account page). The cancellation screen shows the date your trial ends, and you can keep using the service until then.

Change the credit card on file

In the web app, go to “Account” and press “Manage or cancel your plan” in your subscription section. It takes you to the payment management page (a screen of our payment service, Stripe), where you can change the card on file.

Privacy & data

What data is sent?

Only what you act on — the text you select, the image you draw a box around, and the question you type — is sent to the AI to create an answer. We never send the page URL or title. See the privacy policy for details.

Feedback & reporting problems

I'd like to share feedback or suggest a feature

Please send it through the contact form under “Feedback” or “Feature request”. We read what you send and use it to improve the service.

What should I include when reporting a problem?

Please tell us your browser, the steps leading up to it and what you saw. Adding your User ID (the number starting with “AG-”) helps us check faster.
